  • Rock 'n Roll Trivia Question

Would love to here people's opinions on the following question - What rock and roll band performed (is still performing) the most years together with all the original members? Or how about, with the most original members?

Several reunions have taken place beginning in 1986; the latest Monkees formations were a Dolenz-Jones-Tork lineup which toured in 2001, then Dolenz-Jones in 2002."

I think the Rolling Stones is probably a good guess for the longest running band with a fair number of the original members. As for all members still alive, I too thought of U2. Still all alive and still touring. Then I remembered ZZ Top. All members still alive and still touring - I believe they are still touring. They were formed in 1970 giving them a six year head start on U2. And what about Black Sabbath? All members still alive but they haven't really been touring all that time.

My all time favorite band RUSH? Although the drummer Neil Peart was not an original member, he joined the band soon after their first album was released in '74. They have never disbanded and never had a lineup change since. They continue to record and tour to this day. In fact, they just finished a tour last year. Still filling stadiums with nearly no radio airplay and nearly no promotion what-so-ever.
But, I suppose this isn't the answer because of the "Original Members" part of the question...
Just thought I'd promote my favorite band some more!

Re: Rock 'n Roll Trivia Question

No one mentioned Aerosmith, the current lineup has been together since 1971, with Joe Perry and Brad Whitford taking a hiatus for a few years in the 80's due to differences. And like Keith Richards, Steven Tyler looks like he's been dead for years.

I guess their even popular enough that Guitar Hero IV will solely be based on their music.

It's gotta be the Rolling Stones, formed in 1962.

Unless there's some group that's still perfoming from the 1950's. Way before my time but still.....

For what it's worth: Of the original Stones only Watts, Jagger, Richards remain. The founder of the group Brian Jones died, bass player Bill Wyman quit and Ron Woods was added. There have been many others (such as Nikey Hopkins keyboards and Mick Taylor guitarist) who played and traveled with the Stones for years, but were never made full members of the band.
